About the blog

This blog is primarily about science, science communication, and skepticism. It is secondarily about whatever its authors want to write about - probably including parrots, dinosaurs, museums, art, photography, bicycling, politics, and whatever else catches our attention. There is no subject that is technically off-topic to this blog.

The blog seeks to concentrate on how to teach science and skeptical thinking, and how to engage in effective public outreach and activism, mainly by example. This is another way of saying: steal our stuff. (We’re Creative Commons licensed in any case.) We hope to emphasize concrete techniques and memes that can be employed by anyone. We also want to showcase the accessibility of science and skeptical thought, and demonstrate that one need not be a professional scientist, or have a science education, to learn and communicate sound, reality-based conclusions about the nature of our world and the universe.

We seek to add authors to this blog who have an interest in science education and outreach, and who are not professional scientists. Science teachers, engineers, enthusiastic laypeople, and anyone else interested in contributing are invited to contact the blue collar scientist.
