That reasoning from Isaiah 45:18 is a jaw-droppingly false syllogism. Here's their argument:

1. Everything in the Bible is true.
2. The Bible says that the Earth was made to be inhabited.
3. Earth is not the only planet in the universe.

ergo

4. Earth is the only inhabited planet in the universe. QED.

Asthma skepticism seems to be a US cultural thing. In Sweden, everybody's treated asthma as a bona fide allergy symptom at least since the late 70s when I started school. A teacher or school principal confiscating an inhaler would be big news around here.

I realise that not every autoimmune condition need be an allergy, but at least everybody knows that the roots of the problem isn't Freudian.

"would you also say it’s true that homicidal thoughts toward stupid people are also not uncommon during (or, more likely, after) asthma attacks?"

Homicidal? No. I don't actually want to hurt anyone over their ignorance or stupidity; in fact I rather come down to the opinion that all suffering is bad and I should inflict as little of it as possible.

I will admit there are limits, though - sometimes it is simply necessary to point out that someone is being an ass, and doing that may indeed cause some suffering. I try hard to insure that in such cases what I dish out is deserved. So I would say that, yes, I occasionally want to make pointed remarks to ignorant or stupid people. You know, basically what I mean here is, sometimes I want to talk to people in real life the way I occasionally vent on this blog.

Really? Oh, umm, I don't know what to say.

"Bronchiomoblie" . Ha. There. I want milk to come out your nose.

Do I get a trophy? A shiny sticker?

It has been interesting sharing experiences with you and Zach. And the whole internet. I actually just got back from a business trip to Montreal last night, flying on little Porter from the Toronto island airport. Good little airline. Nifty outfits.

So you mention that suicidal thoughts are not uncommon among those who suffer from asthma ... would you also say it's true that homicidal thoughts toward stupid people are also not uncommon during (or, more likely, after) asthma attacks?

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Not to make light of a very serious condition --- well, OK, I suppose I *am* --- but you know me, J., I can never resist tossing in a clever comment when the opportunity presents itself. And we *both* know you could totally kick my non-asthma-suffering ass in any sort of cardio/long-distance challenge if it ever came down to that.

Well, it's been theologically proven that homosexuality encouraged the wrath of terrorists, and Katrina. Hell, the dinosaurs went extinct because God noticed two male Euplocephalus nosing each other and flicked that giant comet our way.

Of course, God spared the French District. They have really good buffalo wings.

But yeah--I have NO patience for intolerant asswipes. The fact that people are mugging gays and saying they don't support Obama because he's "colored" in today's day and age makes me red in the face. The gleeful ignorance of humanity (and especially, it seems, Americans) never fails to disappoint me.

Great article! A family friendly rating and real social commentary rarely go together, you have to choose one, and if you chose the other your would rapidly become a rather boring blog!

It's a serious research opportunity. There's not a lot of supers that are within our range and young enough to study at such great detail. When you study them going off halfway across the universe you get to study a handfull of effects from it.

When you get to study one in your own backyard you can see all kinds of details regarding expansion, collisions with gas clouds, etc, etc.

That's my feeling anyway. I'm not terribly excited about what's been done (finding it), I'm excited about what will done now that we have something to look at.
